Manchester City have seen their first formal offer for Declan Rice rejected by West Ham, as the East London club seek a record-breaking fee for their captain.
The Premier League and European champions sent a £90 million bid to West Ham for Declan Rice on Monday, proposing a deal worth £80 million plus £10 million in add-ons.
Manchester City are seeking a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan, who confirmed his departure from the Etihad Stadium after seven years on Monday, as the German midfielder announced that he would join Barcelona on a free transfer.
Rice is considered as a potential replacement for the outgoing Gundogan, with the 24 year-old one of three names Pep Guardiola reportedly gave club chiefs prior to departing for his summer holiday, according to Sam Lee.
Prior to Manchester City’s bid, West Ham had previously turned down two bids from Arsenal, though the Gunners’ highest bid to date was £75 million plus £15 million in add-ons, with some criticism as well about the structure of the proposed Arsenal deal.
David Ornstein reported on Tuesday morning that West Ham had rejected Manchester City’s opening offer for Declan Rice, with the Hammers claimed to be ‘unimpressed’ by the Blues’ £90 million bid.
On Monday evening, the Daily Mail reported that West Ham were set to turndown City’s offer, with Arsenal expected to react with another bid of their own, according to Fabrizio Romano.
