Luis Garcia has backed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to secure the transfer of Chelsea forward Kai Havertz by claiming that he would be a ‘very good addition’.
A lot has been said about this possible transfer and how it is ‘dividing opinion’ amongst fans, but for Garcia, he is backing Arsenal to get this done
The former Liverpool player added that Kai Havertz ‘isn’t afraid’ to get on the ball and that’s something the Premier League title contenders lack, as he told ESPNA
number of years ago, if the Gunners made this transfer, then Chelsea fans would have been vexed and their rivals across London would have been overjoyed because Havertz was at the top of his game.
It included the 24-year-old helping the West London club win the European Cup, with the German international scoring the only goal of the game against Manchester City.
But his form has fallen off a cliff since then, scoring only seven Premier League goals this term, which has left many questioning this possible deal, but not for Garcia.
“If we see what happened to Arsenal in the last month or month and a half,” said Garcia. “The lack of players who can have the personality to hold the ball, to have the ball and to ask for the ball.
“I think Arsenal have shown that they are naive during the last part of the season. I think Arteta realises that. Havertz is one of those players. He isn’t afraid to receive the ball. He isn’t afraid to hold it. To go inside the box. To create something.
“He showed that. When he played against Real Madrid or when he plays in the top games, he was always there asking for the ball, keeping the ball and helping the team go forward.
“I think Gabriel Jesus is a different player. Trossard is a different player. A player who can hold the ball and allow the rest of the team to come forward, then I think it will be a very good addition, but of course, the price tag is high, so we will see what happens. I think it will be a good addition for the long-term and the big picture.”
